Easter Jeep Safari 2027 Guide
Easter Jeep Safari 2027 runs March 20 to 28 in Moab. Trail registration opens online at rr4w.com in January 2027 and costs $75 per vehicle per trail day. It stays open until every trail is full, so the useful prep happens before January: set up your club profile, enter your vehicle, and decide which days you want to be on the rock.
EJS isn't a festival you wander into. The Red Rock 4-Wheelers run it as nine days of guided trail rides. You sign up for a specific trail on a specific day, meet the group at that trail's departure point, and spend most of the day out there. The one part of the week that works as a drop-in is the Vendor Expo on Thursday and Friday, March 25 and 26, at the Old Spanish Trail Arena south of town.
Registering without a mess
The club's FAQ is blunt about where people trip up. One profile can register one vehicle per day, and once your order goes through, the system blacks that day out for you. Groups can't book as a block, so every driver needs a profile and a vehicle of their own. Do that in December, not on the morning registration opens.
After you pay, open My Orders. If the order says FAILED or INITIATED and shows no transaction number, it didn't process, and you'll need to enter it again. And if you forget your password, call or email the club rather than making a new profile. Vehicles and memberships don't carry over to a second account.
The printed Safari magazine is mailed once a year, in January, to the club's mailing list. It has every trail's departure point and time. The same information is online, and each official trail page on rr4w.com now lists GPS coordinates and a map.
What it costs, with the parts people miss
The base math is easy: $75 per vehicle per trail day, so a three-day plan for one rig is $225. Every registered vehicle gets one giveaway ticket in its packet for the Friday drawing (6:30pm, March 26). Extra tickets are $50 each at the registration area, per the Vendor Expo page.
Part of your fee pays for the trail permits the club gets for the event. The exception is Elephant Hill. It's inside Canyonlands National Park, and the Park Service requires a day-use permit for every vehicle on that road. Permits are released on Recreation.gov at 8am Mountain time the day before, with a $6 reservation fee (they're free in person on the day if any are left). The park caps the road at 24 vehicles a day, in groups of no more than three that leave 30 minutes apart. You'll also pay the park entrance fee. The Needles road rules set a 21-foot maximum length, racks and trailers included, and an 85-inch maximum width, and they don't allow pets even inside the vehicle. If Elephant Hill is on your list, read that trail's description on rr4w.com for how the club handles it.
Cancellations made in writing before the deadline on your confirmation get everything back except a $15 fee. After the deadline you lose it all, and there's no refund for a broken vehicle or bad weather unless the club cancels the trail.
Check-in timing
Registration and check-in are at the Old Spanish Trail Arena, 3641 S Hwy 191 (map and directions). It's open 7–10am each morning from the first day and all day Thursday and Friday. It's closed Saturday, March 27 and Easter Sunday. Plan around it: if your only trail day is that last Saturday, get your packet by Friday.
Late-March weather in Moab
Pack for winter mornings and spring afternoons. The Park Service's Arches almanac puts March at an average high of 64°F and an average low of 35°F, with about 10 nights below freezing. The recorded extremes are 87°F and 13°F. The park notes swings of more than 40 degrees in a single day, and says even a little snow or ice can make local trails and roads impassable. The club adds that Moab sits a little over 4,000 feet, the mesas reach past 5,000, and spring rain and even snow are familiar to people who've come before. Bring a warm layer for the 7am meetup and rain gear for the afternoon. A dry change of clothes for the drive back to town is worth the space.
Vehicles, skill and the trail ratings
You don't need a Jeep. The club allows any full-size, street-legal four-wheel-drive vehicle and street-legal rock buggies. It doesn't allow UTVs, sand buggies, crawlers or ATVs. Stock 4x4s can handle many of the lower-rated trails, the club says, while the hardest ones are usually run by high-clearance, heavily modified trucks, and even those can have problems. Match the trail rating to the vehicle you actually have, not the one you're planning to build. Drones aren't allowed on trail rides during club events.
March 2027 is crowded on the Utah calendar. San Rafael Swell Jeep Jamboree runs March 15–18 out of Green River. Matt's Off Road Games at Sand Hollow State Park near Hurricane wraps up March 20, the day EJS opens. Jeep Jamboree USA also lists two Easter Jeep Safari night runs, on March 22 and March 24. If you plan to stack events, look at the drive from Sand Hollow to Moab before you book a trail for the first Saturday.
A short gear list for a day on slickrock
Each trail description sets its own requirements, and those come first. Past that, here's what we'd want in the truck for a club-led day, with current prices from our tracker:
- Recovery points front and rear, plus a kinetic strap or soft shackles. Trail leaders need somewhere safe to hook up.
- An air compressor. If you air down for the rock, you'll want to air back up before the highway into town.
- Traction boards for sand washes and wet spots.
- A radio. Check the trail description for what the group runs on.
- A jack and base that work on uneven rock, not just pavement.
